Rugged, handheld readout unit for taking manual readings from vibrating wire sensors and thermistors.
The Geolook GL-VW100 is a robust, portable readout unit designed for reading all types of vibrating wire sensors and their internal temperature thermistors. It is an essential tool for field engineers performing manual data collection, installation verification, and troubleshooting of geotechnical instrumentation. The unit features a high-contrast backlit LCD display that is easily readable in direct sunlight or low-light tunnels. It provides excitation for the sensor and displays the reading in frequency (Hz), frequency squared (digits), or period units. The simple 4-key interface makes it easy to operate with one hand in difficult field conditions.

The GL-VW100 operates on the 'pluck and read' principle used by all vibrating wire sensors. When the user presses the 'Read' button, the device sends a high-voltage electrical pulse (excitation) down the cable to the sensor's electromagnetic coil.
This pulse plucks the tensioned steel wire inside the sensor, causing it to vibrate at its resonant frequency. As the vibration decays, the coil acts as a microphone, picking up the frequency of the wire and sending it back to the GL-VW100.
The readout processes this signal to filter out noise and calculates the exact frequency. It simultaneously measures the resistance of the built-in thermistor to provide a temperature reading, which is crucial for correcting thermal effects on the structure.
The GL-VW100 offers precise measurement capabilities across a wide range of geotechnical parameters.
| Parameter | Measurement Range | Resolution | Accuracy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Frequency | 400 - 6000 Hz | 0.1 Hz | ±0.01% F.S. |
| Digits (f²/1000) | 160 - 36,000 | 0.1 digit | ±0.01% F.S. |
| Period | 166 - 2500 µs | 0.01 µs | ±0.01% F.S. |
| Temperature | -20°C to +80°C | 0.1°C | ±0.5°C |
